July 4th Weekend
Consider Founding Fathers during 4th of July
• They had a great faith
• There are a separation of church and state
• The founding fathers refer to the Bible and the Almighty
• Implication that there was something greater going on than the government
• Signing the declaration of independence basically was signing up for a warrant
Abraham, Moses, Paul & Barnabas
• Feel the need to leave to a foreign land but they look through faith
• Thank God for what we’ve been given
• We’re always sitting or standing because somebody before us stood up
• We stand on the shoulders of those who’ve gone before us
• People willing to die for us (People, Jesus)
o Irony: One thing on Independence Day is to say “Thanks’ but its our race to run for those coming after us
o A call to take Gospel forward
• Faith is passed on before us, to us
• But its our turn now
• Wisdom of ages is rolled forward, and we are to roll it forward
• Have I pushed my faith forward from 1 year ago?
• Need to keep in mind all the people before me.
